Providing a street service to young people in Hedland
Mingle Mob is an outreach service for the youth of Hedland. The high-profile Bus operates after hours, providing a secure means for young people to get home or to a safe place, and a link to ongoing support..
The teams work on foot at the shopping centre and use a bus to patrol the streets. They are multi-cultural and multi-talented staff who engage and converse with young people, develop trusting relationships, link with activities, act as an advocate for young people, support a balanced view and uphold the law.
Throughout the year staff help to organise awesome events like skate comps, camps, graffiti workshops and sporting activities.
Current hours of operation
Thursday 5pm - 11pm
Friday 5pm - 12 midngiht
Saturday 5pm - 12 midnight

Background
The Mingle Mob Youth Outreach Project is a service of the Youth Involvement Council Inc (YIC) and has been running in its current capacity since January 2005. The original concept for the Mingle Mob Project was developed in 2002 in response to the high level of criminal and anti-social behaviour in the community that was directly linked to young people.
Initially based on the Hillary’s HYPE program, Mingle Mob evolved to address and relate to the local environment, needs and people.
Target Group
The outreach service is available to any young person living in Hedland whatever their needs or circumstances. As an on-the-ground program, Mingle Mob is especially well placed to provide assistance to those young people who are most at risk'. Our clients may be exposed to issues of:
- Truancy
- Anti-social behaviour
- Drug and alcohol Abuse
- Family Violence
- Homelessness
The program recognises that there are times when young people are particularly vulnerable and need extra support. Feel free to contact our office or speak to any one of the workers on the streets. We can be identified by our shiny blue T-shirts.
What the program aims to do?
Beyond offering free and safe transportation, Mingle Mob aims to:
- Encourage positive behaviors
- Help foster and maintain an environment that all can enjoy.
- Enhance youth enjoyment and participation in events
- Assist in improving communications between youth and others
- Provide appropriate advice, referral and follow up when needed.
- Support and assist families to access services
