Lawson Street Youth Centre (LSYC)
The Lawson Street Youth Centre is a fun and safe place for the youth to hang out!
Young people between 10 to 17 years can come along to the Centre and join in the regular activities and programs that we have running. To find out more about our programs or to get involved drop into 34 Lawson street, South Hedland (08) 91 40 1272.

Mingle Mob
We are the Mob that Mingle about town getting involved in what interests the youth of Hedland. The high-profile Mingle Mob bus operates after hours, keeping an eye out for the safety of our kids as well as working with the Youth Centre in the organization of awesome events like skate comps, camps, graffiti workshops and sporting activities. If you see us out and about mingling around town in our blue shirts, swing on over and say G’Day we’d love to hear from you.

Youth Accommodation Program (YAP)
YAP provides emergency crisis accommodation 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for up to 6 young people aged 15 to 25, who are homeless or at imminent risk of homelessness. It is short term accommodation for young people who are then supported in long term goals. |

Other Major Programs
Birds and Bees
This program
aims to create awareness about the issues that young teens begin to face in their adolescent years, in an environment that promotes open discussion around healthy relationships and self-awareness. These issues include emotional, mental, and physical wellbeing, and the building of self-esteem and strong personalities.
Mentoring and Tracking (MaT)
The Pilbara Youth Mentoring Program is a knowledge and skills based learning program, encouraging and equipping young people to re-invest in their community in a positive manner. This program provides an ongoing and stable individual support pathway for identified young people from Hedland High School,
The program partners with BHP Billiton Iron Ore, and consists of three key strategic areas including:
1 Skill & knowledge development
2 Linking into & utilizing networks
3 Personal development & social responsibility
Community Visits
LSYC staff visit Yandeyarra and Warralong to bring activities to the young people such as basketball, art, circus skills.
In 2010, YIC and BHPBIO will be working closely with the local community schools on programs such as Drumbeat, gardening and art programs.
Collaborative Programs
YIC works with the Hedland Youth Stakeholder Group on projects such as the Young Leaders Program, which was funded by the Crime Prevention Program, and auspiced by YIC.
