YAP HOUSE EXPECTATIONS

For Crisis Accommodation clients

The YAP staff are here to help you make your time with us as relaxed as possible. Everyone has the same expectations to follow so that it is fair and equal for all. Therefore whilst you are living here you will be part of a household and will need to follow some basic rules.

If you have problems with, or do not understand the rules then please ask the worker on duty to explain them to you.

Should you break the expectations you may have privileges removed or be asked to leave.

Expectations

Respect

  • Residents are to respect each other's rights, privacy and feelings and to cooperate with others residents and staff.

Violence & Anti Social Behaviour

  • There should be no offensive language (swearing or any other forms of harassment.
  • Violence or the threat of violence/abuse (physical and verbal) either towards other residents, staff or the property (including pets) of the YAP will not be tolerated.
  • Stealing from the YAP , clients and/or staff will not be tolerated
  • Weapons should not be brought onto the property and will be confiscated and given to the Police.

Alcohol, drugs & implements for use

  • Alcohol and drugs should not be consumed and/or, brought into the YAP . This includes implements for use.
  • All illegal drugs and implements for use will be confiscated and given to the Police for disposal.
  • If any drugs or alcohol are found on the property or in the possession of a client and/or the resident is found to be under the influence of either the above, then the client may be asked to leave or entry refused.

Curfew

15 & Under

  • Through negotiation with staff and caregiver.
  • Students are required to return to the YAP after school and may visits friends after logging in with staff re whereabouts and return by 6pm .
  • Non students - 6pm

16-17 years

  • Students are required to return to the YAP after school and may visits friends after logging in with staff re whereabouts and return by the time the building is secured.
  • Non students - building secured

18+

  • No curfew, although residents are expected to by in by the time the building is secured and/or have made other arrangements with staff.

Note: All residents need to be aware that unless arrangements have been made to come in past the time the building has secured then they will need to consider other options for the night.

  • Sunday to Thursday - 10pm
  • Friday & Saturday - 11pm

  • Once activities have ceased

16+

  • You may quietly read in your room after activities have ceased if you are not disruption other residents.

Staying out on a regular basis

15 & Under

  • Residents 15 and under are not allowed to stay out overnight unless it is with a significant caregiver i.e. parent

16 & 17

  • Residents wanting to stay out overnight will need to organise this with day staff. Permission to stay out overnight is at staff's discretion and may be refused.
  • Residents need to provide the name, address and phone number of people they intend to stay with if staying out overnight.

18+

  • Residents 18 and over may stay out overnight.

18+

  • Should a resident stay out overnight on a regular basis then it may be considered that the resident is no longer homeless or need accommodated support by the YAP .
  • If a resident stays out 3 nights in a row the YAP will understand you have found alternative accommodation and may be asked to leave.

Visitors hours

  • Sunday to Thursday - 1pm - 8pm
  • Friday & Saturday - 1pm - 9pm
  • For visitors to visit outside these hours are at the workers discretion.
  • Maximum number of visitors at any given time per resident is 2.
  • All visitors must be introduced to staff and should not enter other resident's bedroom.

House Duties

  • The YAP and the property contained within should be respected at all times. Graffiti or damage to property will not be tolerated.
  • Meals are 7am for breakfast and 7pm for dinner. This may vary at the discretion of the worker on duty.
  • There is to be NO eating in the bedrooms or lounge room. Meals should be eaten in the dinning room.
  • Residents are to assist the worker on duty with the preparation of the evening meal.
  • One evening meal is prepared and residents should discuss with the worker on duty any dislikes or special diet restriction i.e. diabetic.
  • Kitchen close at 8pm, tea, coffee and fruit is available after 8pm.
  • NO cooking after this time.
  • Residents should notify staff prior to the evening meal if they are eating out.
  • Residents are responsible for cleaning up after each meal as directed by worker on duty.
  • Residents are to share YAP equipment.
  • Noise to be kept at a reasonable level (includes TV and stereos)
  • Personal stereos may be played at an acceptable level determined by the worker on duty in resident's bedroom ONLY.
  • YAP stereo should not be removed from the property or used in resident's bedrooms and to be played at an acceptable level determined by the worker on duty.
  • Residents are to ensure that their rooms are clean & tidy.
  • Beds are to be made each morning and linen washed once a week (sat).
  • Older residents are responsible for their clothes washing. Younger residents to put dirty linen in the linen basket provided.
  • NO pets allowed on the property (other than pets belonging to the YAP
  • Smoking is prohibited in the YAP .

Information

  • If you are unhappy about your treatment during your stay at the YAP please talk with the YAP Coordinator. A copy of your rights & responsibilities are included in the information booklet provided.
  • Residents should talk to staff if they are experiencing any problems with other residents. Any resident may call a house meeting, which would be undertaken by staff.

Personal health & hygiene

  • Residents should shower every day and be appropriately dressed.
  • Male residents should wear T-shirts at all times, no bared chests.
  • Pornographic, "R" rated sexual material and items, as well as sexual activity are not permitted at the YAP .
  • Condoms and safe sex information is available for those engaging in external sexual relationships.

 

Phone Use

  • The staff member on duty will receive all internal calls regarding clients.
  • If you are required to respond to an incoming call taken by the staff member on duty, this call will need to be taken in the client Intake office. The phone should not be removed from this office.
  • Residents are to use the phone in the client kitchen when wanting to make any outgoing calls.
  • To use this residents will be required to use the following Telstra services132200, 132203, 132999 Telstra Residential customer billing and service numbers; Home link 1800 services, Telstra Message Box for message retrieval; and Telstra Phone Away for making outgoing calls.
  • If you are do not have access to any of the Telstra services then you will not be able to use the phone in the Client Kitchen.
  • The client phone will be locked at 9pm Mon - Sunday, and unlocked the following morning at 8am .
  • For a client to make an outgoing call (using the prescribed Telstra services) they will be required to press 0 before typing in any other details.
  • Alternatively staff are to advise client of the location of public phone boxes; Hawkins Way or Y @the JD.

Board

  • Residents 16 and over and receiving an income are required to pay board. This is calculated at being 25% of their net income.
  • Board is to be paid to day staff on the residents pay day and thereafter on a regular basis i.e. weekly, fortnightly.
  • Outstanding rent to be paid over an agreed period of time.

Personal development

  • From Monday to Friday residents of school age must attend school unless ill or through prior arrangements.
  • Those not able to attend school due to the above reasons and under 15 and under are expected to remain at the YAP under the supervision of staff.
  • Older residents are encouraged to conduct their own personal business between the hours of 8-12noon.
  • On Saturday and Sundays all clients are encouraged to undertake external activities between the hours of 11.30am to 5pm.
