Mungka Maya
Mungka Maya is YICs specialty space currently offering a range of programs and workshops throughout the year.
It is a sensory space used to create a peaceful environment with lots of visual and tactile stimulation as well as a place for the kids to come and chill for a while if they need to calm down, talk or just take time out.
We use meditation and mindfulness as a means for young people to learn to manage stress, anxiety and emotions so they can make better choices about behaviour and impulse control.
We've found that exposure to mindfulness and meditation builds confidence, self-esteem and improves mental health and wellbeing; participants are noticeably happier and more content, and interact better with others. They show significant behavioural changes and have a sense of belonging, ownership and pride.
We have seen improvement not just in young people’s behaviour, but in positivity, confidence, engagement, overall sense of wellbeing, personal hygiene, ability to identify emotions and to trust.
